Polydimethyldiallylammonium chloride is a linear polymer with cationic groups. Therefore, it exhibits physical and chemical functions such as adsorption, charge neutralization, and ion exchange that neutral polymers do not have. Cationic polymers have relatively fixed positive charges and have strong binding force on negatively charged surfaces such as fibers and plastics. They are widely used as antistatic agents, spinning oils, flocculants, etc. for synthetic materials.
Polydimethyldiallylammonium chloride polymer antistatic agent with high molecular weight, rapid dissolution, low monomer residue, and excellent antistatic performance is synthesized by aqueous solution polymerization. Polydimethyldiallylammonium chloride is an aldehyde-free and pollution-free color fixing agent that can be used in the color fixing treatment of fabrics. However, the reaction time and temperature as well as the pH value of the color fixing bath should be controlled during the color fixing process to ensure that the color fastness reaches the best state and improve the dyeing effect and the color fixing effect.

Typical Applications

1. Water and Wastewater Treatment:

Drinking Water Purification: Used as a primary coagulant or coagulant aid to remove turbidity, organic matter, and microorganisms.

Municipal and Industrial Wastewater Treatment: Effective in clarifying wastewater by settling out suspended solids, color, and biological oxygen demand (BOD) before discharge.

2. Paper Manufacturing:

Retention and Drainage Aid: Improves the retention of fine particles and fillers (like clay or calcium carbonate) onto paper fibers, reducing waste and improving water drainage on the paper machine wire.

Strength Agent: Can be used to enhance the dry strength of paper products.

3. Oil Field Applications:

Drilling Fluid Additive: Acts as a flocculant to control solid separation and improve the efficiency of drilling muds.

4. Textile Industry:

Used as a fixative or dyeing assistant to improve the fastness of dyes on fabrics.

5. Other Applications:

Sludge Dewatering: Helps in thickening and dewatering sludges from various processes.

Consumer Products: Found in hair and skin care products as a conditioning agent due to its ability to adhere to surfaces.

Dosage and Preparation

1. When used alone, it should be diluted to the concentration of 0.5%-0.05% (based on solid content).
2. In dealing with different source water or waste water, the dosage is based on the turbidity and the concentration of the water. The most economical dosage is based on the trial.
3. The dosing spot and the mixing velocity should be carefully decided to guarantee that the chemical can be mixed evenly with the other chemicals in the water and the flocs can not be broken.
4. It is better to dose the product continuously.
